THE FOUNDATION OF OUR BELIEFS

WE BELIEVE...

How we navigate our journey of faith is crucial in being genuine followers of Jesus.

Below serves to further clarify our beliefs, using the Bible as our foundation.

We believe one God is represented in the three person Trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:2; Matthew 5:45; 6:1,4,8,9; 1 John 1:1; 4:24; 14:9;  14:16-20; 2 Peter 1:21)

We believe God is the Creator of all things both visible and invisible. (Genesis 1:1; Acts 17:24-28; Romans 5:15-17; Colossians 1:16; Hebrews 11:3; James 1:17

We believe Jesus Christ is God’s one and only Son; our one and only Savior. (John 1:14; 3:16; 1 John 4:9; 2 Peter 3:18; 1 John 1:1)

We believe the Holy Spirit is an active and functioning person of God’s triune. (John 16:5-15; Acts 1:7-8; Romans 8:26-27)

We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every Christian. (1 Corinthians 3:16; 6:19; 2 Timothy 1:14)

We believe that the Bible is the inspired, written Word of God, absolute in its authority, complete in its revelation and without any error in its teaching. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)

We believe the Bible teaches that man, created by God, willfully rebelled and disobeyed (sinned) against God and is consequently lost and without hope apart from Jesus Christ. (Acts 4:12; Romans 3:23)

We believe the Bible teaches that salvation (the forgiveness of sin) is only by grace through Jesus Christ’s sacrificial death. (Matthew 26:28; Romans 5:9; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 Peter 1:18-19; 1 John 1:7

We believe the Bible teaches that an individual receives God’s grace by placing faith in Christ, repenting of sin, confessing Christ as Lord, being immersed into Christ, and living in obedience to God. (Matthew 10:32; Luke 24:45-47; Acts 2:38; 3:19; 17:30; Romans 5:1-2; 6:1-7; 10:9; Galatians 3:27; Philippians 2:10-11; 1 John 4:15; Colossians 2:12; Peter 3:21; Luke 6:46-49)

We believe in the biblical account of man’s creation. (Genesis 1:27)

We believe that all humans are born with a sin nature (Jeremiah 17:9; Romans 3:23), but are called to live a holy life once he or she becomes a follower of Christ. (Ephesians 17-32; 2 Peter 1:3; 2 Peter 1:6).

We believe in the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman and that the homosexual lifestyle is outside of God’s plan for His people. (Genesis 2:24; Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Isaiah 62:5; Jeremiah 29:6)

We believe in the sanctity of life and that life begins at conception. (Psalm 139:13-16)

We believe in the judgment of all people to either heaven or hell for eternity at their time of death or upon Christ’s return. (2 Corinthians 5:6-10; Hebrews 9:27; 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9; Revelation 20:15)

We believe that full commitment and devotion to Jesus Christ is normal for every Christian. (Matthew 16:24-27; Luke 9:23-24)

We believe the local church is an autonomous body. (Ephesians 5:23b)

We believe the Church is a body of Christ-followers who should live in community and enjoy the connection made possible through the fellowship of small groups. (Acts 2:44-47)

We believe we are “Christians only,” but not the only Christians; therefore, the Church should seek unity with all believers in matters essential to the universal Christian faith, and offer liberty in matters of opinion in areas where the Lord has remained silent through His Word. (John 10:14-16; Ephesians 4:2-6; Colossians 1:4-6)

We believe that the Holy Spirit gives a spiritual gift (a special ability) to every believer for ministering to others and thereby building up the Body of Christ. (Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:7-11; 1 Peter 4:10)

We believe that the pattern of the New Testament Church was to observe the Lord’s Supper each week. (Acts 20:7, 2:42)

We believe that each believer should give a generous, intentional, regular and proportional gift of his or her income to God, through the local church, as a spiritual discipline. We believe that the tithe (one-tenth) is the standard by which Christians determine if they are giving generously. (Malachi 3:10; 1 Corinthians 16:2; 2 Corinthians 9:7)

We believe that God answers prayer, occasionally in miraculous ways. We believe prayer is a spiritual discipline that should be taught and learned within the Body of Christ. (Acts 1:14; Colossians 4:2; 1 John 5:14-15)

We believe love is to be shown to all people as the core trait of the Christian faith. (John 13:35; 1 Peter 4:8)

We believe the mission of the church is to reach the spiritually lost for Christ, to teach with the goal of “forming Christ in them” and then to mobilize believers to accomplish God’s purposes in the world. (Matthew 28:18-20)

We believe the Bible teaches that a plurality of Elders is to exercise authority over the local church. (Acts 20:28; Philippians 1:1; 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:1-4)
